In a Nutshell
50 acres of landscaped gardens, lakes and follies set in the grounds of the house. A great place for a picturesque walk and a dog friendly cafe too.

Parking and Pooping
Hestercombe lies just a few miles north of Taunton. After leaving the M5, you navigate around the suburbs of Taunton before emerging north into the countryside, so make sure you have a good map or sat nav. Hestercombe has its own dedicated parking a short walk from the entrance. There's plenty of grass about and loos just in side the entrance.

Walkies
Hestercombe is very dog friendly and many locals maintain memberships so they can walk their dogs regularly here. Dogs are required to be kept on leads though.

The gardens are laid out in a valley, rising from the rear of the old house. There are various paths and you can choose to stay close to the lakes on the flatter paths, or climb up the sides of the valley to get more exercise and some great views. Paths are generally gravel but it can get wet and a little slippery on the bridges in wet weather, so best where sensible shoes.

There are numerous resting spots with benches where you can take in the view and have a break and dog bins are provided too. You can continue your walk around the front of the house where there are attractive lawns and water features.

Keeping the Humans Amused
The primary reason for visiting here are the gardens and the views. The landscaped gardens have numerous follies dotted about and the river and lake at the heart of the valley for a truly picturesque setting.

The house is not open to the public, but does house a gallery with exhibitions and a secondhand bookshop. A watermill has been restored and during the season there are demonstrations of its workings. The formal gardens at the front of the house have attractive water-courses and walled walks.

Chow Time
Hestercombe's dog friendliness extends to its cafe and restaurant. The courtyard area of the house is used for the cafe, with plenty of seating under high canopies so suitable in all weathers. You can also take pup indoors too, where the restaurant area has flag-stone floors. A good range of hot and cold meals, snacks and cakes are available.
